The broader trend is the transition to low-carbon baseload power. If smaller reactors become viable, energy costs for crypto miners could stabilize or decline, improving profitability and reducing environmental criticisms. This aligns with the growing institutional focus on ESG in crypto, potentially easing regulatory pressures.

A Nature article discusses how smaller nuclear reactors could transform fission into a more nimble source of always-on, carbon-free power.

The 2025 nuclear deadline for SMRs confirms a strategic pivot from fossil fuels to carbon-free baseload power for AI scaling, directly countering the 20-year stagnation in US electricity production. This signals that energy constraints—which have historically capped crypto mining profitability—will be structurally resolved within 18 months, enabling exponential growth in AI-driven blockchain applications previously deemed impractical due to power requirements.
