Why Open Ecosystems Matter for Agentic AI
Agentic AI refers to models and agents that can plan, execute tasks, and adapt to new information on their own. As these systems become more common, they will need to work across different hardware, software, and cloud environments. AMD says that open ecosystems — where tools, models, and infrastructure can be swapped freely — are the only way to make that happen at scale.
The company points to existing challenges in AI deployment where proprietary stacks create friction. Developers often have to rewrite code or retrain models when moving between platforms. For agentic AI, which relies on chains of tools and real-time decision-making, that friction becomes a bottleneck.
Addressing Vendor Lock-In

AMD argues that agentic AI will require heterogeneous environments where different components can be mixed and matched. The company has long supported open-source software like ROCm, its GPU computing platform, and has contributed to frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
