Anthropic has pushed out an upgrade to Claude's streaming renderer, and the company says it delivers nine times fewer stalls on slower laptops. The change targets a pain point that has dogged users running the AI assistant on older hardware, and the timing suggests a push to widen Claude's appeal in the enterprise.
A ninefold drop in freezing
The new renderer is designed to smooth out the choppy, laggy feel that can creep into streaming responses when a machine struggles to keep up. Anthropic claims the update reduces those stalls by a factor of nine — meaning users on low-powered devices should see Claude's output flow more steadily, without the jarring pauses that break concentration.
That matters for more than comfort. Anyone who has used an AI tool on a beat-up work laptop knows the frustration of watching text appear in fits and starts. When the UI hiccups, the whole interaction feels brittle, and that's not something you want when you're in the middle of drafting a contract or debugging a script.
Why smoother UI could help enterprise adoption
Anthropic is clearly betting that better rendering performance on older machines will lower a barrier to adoption. Companies don't always hand out top-shelf hardware. Many fleets still run machines that are years old, and if Claude runs poorly on those, it's a hard sell to roll it out across the whole org.
This upgrade changes the calculus. It makes Claude a more viable option for enterprises whose employees are spread across a patchwork of devices — some new, some far from it.
