Claude has launched a new feature called 'Teach a Skill' for users on its Pro, Max, and Team plans. The tool lets people train the AI assistant on specific tasks, moving beyond simple Q&A toward more automated, customized workflows. Anthropic, the company behind Claude, says the feature is meant to redefine how people interact with the model.
What the feature does
Instead of just answering questions, Claude can now learn a repeatable process. A user might teach it how to draft a particular type of report, summarize meeting notes in a specific format, or handle a routine customer inquiry. Once the skill is taught, Claude can perform that task on command, saving time and reducing manual effort.
The feature is built directly into the chat interface. Users describe the steps or provide examples, and Claude picks up the pattern. It's a shift from one-off prompts to something closer to a programmable assistant.
Who can use it
Teach a Skill is available immediately for subscribers to Claude's Pro, Max, and Team plans. Pro is the individual paid tier, Max offers higher usage limits, and Team is designed for small groups. Free-tier users do not have access to the feature.
The rollout covers all regions where Claude is available. No additional setup or coding is required — the skill training happens through natural conversation.
Anthropic has been positioning Claude as a tool for productivity, not just conversation. Teach a Skill fits that strategy by letting users offload repetitive tasks. Instead of writing the same type of email template from scratch each time, a user can teach Claude the structure once and then trigger it with a short command.
The company hasn't disclosed how many skills a single account can store or whether there are limits on complexity. But early testers describe the feature as straightforward: you show Claude what to do, and it remembers.
For businesses on the Team plan, this could mean standardizing certain processes across a group. A manager could teach a skill for generating weekly status reports, and everyone on the team could use it.
Anthropic hasn't announced pricing changes tied to the feature. It's included in existing plan subscriptions.
The next step will likely be user feedback. How well the skills generalize — and whether they handle edge cases — will determine how quickly the feature spreads beyond early adopters.
