The project uses high-precision 100-megapixel Hasselblad digital scanning to build a permanent real-world asset (RWA) archive. The goal is to anchor the teapots' 500-year cultural lineage in verifiable data, not just stories.
Why a 500-year paradigm?
Yixing Zisha teapots have a long history, but much of it is wrapped in anecdote and shifting narratives. The Judge Archive-Lab wants to separate that cultural lineage from what it calls “ephemeral narratives.” By creating a fixed digital record, the lab aims to give collectors, scholars, and future generations a stable reference point. The initiative centers on the 'Genesis No. 001' masterpiece, which will serve as the benchmark for the entire framework.
The technology behind the archive
At the core of the project is a 100-megapixel Hasselblad digital scanning system. That level of resolution captures every crack, glaze variation, and maker's mark in extreme detail. The scans become the RWA (Real World Asset) archival record—a permanent, unchangeable digital twin. The lab says this is the first time such high-resolution scanning has been applied specifically to establish a long-term standard for Yixing Zisha teapots.
