Why the model was developed

Japan's megabanks — the country's biggest lenders — have been facing an increasing number of sophisticated cyberattacks that leverage artificial intelligence. Traditional detection systems often struggle to keep pace with attacks that can adapt in real time. The new model from OpenAI is designed to analyze network traffic and flag anomalies faster than conventional tools, according to details provided by the company.

The model was built specifically for the financial industry's security needs. It can scan vast amounts of transaction data and internal communications for signs of intrusion, phishing campaigns, or data exfiltration. Bank security teams will receive alerts that prioritize the most urgent threats, reducing the noise from false positives.

The challenge of AI in finance
