Samsung is raising prices for its chipmaking services by as much as 15%, a direct response to the surge in demand for AI hardware. The move signals how far the semiconductor industry has tilted toward premium pricing.
Why the price hike landed now
AI demand has been building for months, and Samsung's foundry business is at the center of it. The company makes chips for a range of customers, and those customers are now paying more. The 15% ceiling applies across the board, though the actual increase depends on the process node and the volume of the order.
Samsung isn't the only one feeling the strain. The entire supply chain — from equipment makers to materials suppliers — is stretched. But Samsung's decision to raise prices publicly is a notable step, because it sets a benchmark for the rest of the market.
