Vitalize Raises $31M Series A Led by Oak HC/FT for Hospital Staffing AI

Vitalize, a startup building an AI platform for hospital labor and capacity management, has raised a $31 million Series A led by Oak HC/FT. Y Combinator and other investors also joined the round. The company's software is designed to help hospitals make real-time decisions about staffing levels and patient capacity.

The deal was reported by Heather Landi of Fierce Healthcare. Vitalize co-founder and CEO Veeraj Shah has not publicly commented beyond the funding announcement.

What Vitalize actually does

Hospitals have long struggled with matching staff to patient demand. Understaffing leads to burnout and worse outcomes; overstaffing burns through budgets. Vitalize says its platform uses AI to solve that in real time, rather than through the spreadsheet-and-phone-call methods that many facilities still rely on. It's a problem that every hospital administrator knows well, which may explain why Oak HC/FT led the round. The firm focuses on healthcare investments and has a track record of backing companies that sell into health systems.

YC's continued shift toward applied AI

Y Combinator's participation is worth a second look. The accelerator built its reputation partly on early bets in crypto — Coinbase and OpenSea among them. But its recent batches have leaned heavily into AI and healthcare. That doesn't mean YC is abandoning crypto, but it does suggest where its partners see the most immediate commercial traction. For crypto founders hoping for a YC check, the bar is different than it was a few years ago.

The blockchain angle isn't here yet

What's striking about this round is what's absent: any mention of blockchain, tokenization, or decentralized data infrastructure. Vitalize is a pure AI play. That's a missed opportunity for crypto projects focused on healthcare data management — secure patient records, supply chain provenance, auditable labor records. Hospitals aren't ready to adopt those solutions at scale, and this funding round won't change that.

Still, the broader trend is clear. AI is being deployed in critical, compliance-heavy sectors. Those same sectors eventually need verifiable data trails. Whether that demand gets served by enterprise blockchain products or by traditional databases is an open question, and it's not one the crypto industry has answered well. For now, Vitalize is an AI company. The $31 million says that's enough.
