X Trade Buttons Are Coming to Timelines, Cashtag Creator Says

X is about to let users trade tokens right from their timelines. Nikita Bier, the builder behind Cashtags, confirmed that trade buttons are coming, and he pushed back on claims that the platform is shadowbanning crypto accounts.

What Bier said

Bier, who developed the Cashtags feature, denied the shadowbanning allegations. He pointed out that he built Cashtags and that trade buttons will follow. The feature lets users add Solana and Ethereum price charts directly into posts, and paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens.

The Cashtags record

Cashtags first rolled out in April to iPhone users in the US and Canada. Within 48 hours it drew an estimated $1 billion in volume. In May, X added live stock charts to the feature. The early traction was hard to ignore.

Bier credits the Treasury, not X

Bier doesn't give X credit for the current bull market. Instead, he points to the US Treasury's bond buybacks, specifically Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plan to at least double purchases of long-dated debt on Aug. 20. That's a $950 billion buyback plan. His read: the money flow, not the social feed, is what's driving prices.

Bier stepped back from his product role at X this month and now serves as an adviser, leaving the trade button rollout to his successor. No launch date has been announced, and Cashtags still covers only a few markets. The feature is real, but the wait isn't over.
