Bitcoin Treasury Capital Launches Europe's First BTC-Backed Preferred Stock on Spotlight

Bitcoin Treasury Capital AB has listed Europe's first bitcoin-backed preferred stock on Sweden's Spotlight Stock Market. The instrument, which carries a 10% annual dividend, gives investors a way to earn yield on BTC exposure without directly holding the cryptocurrency.

A 10% dividend, paid in bitcoin

The preferred stock is designed to pay out 10% annually. Holders can choose to receive dividends in bitcoin or in fiat currency. The company backs the stock with its own bitcoin reserves, meaning the payout is tied to the performance of its treasury holdings.

Why Spotlight?

Spotlight Stock Market is a Swedish exchange that focuses on smaller and growth-oriented companies. Listing there gives Bitcoin Treasury Capital access to European investors while staying within a regulated framework. The exchange's rules require clear disclosure, but the listing process is lighter than on a main market.

What this means for European investors

Until now, European investors looking for bitcoin-linked income had few options. They could buy a bitcoin ETF, but those don't pay dividends. Or they could lend their BTC on DeFi platforms, which carries smart-contract risk. This preferred stock offers a regulated alternative with a fixed coupon. The trade-off: the stock's value will move with bitcoin's price, and the dividend is only as reliable as the company's reserves.

Bitcoin Treasury Capital hasn't disclosed how much it plans to raise or the exact terms of the offering. The listing is set to begin trading in the coming weeks.
