Revolut Hit by Outage Affecting Payments, Crypto, Sign-In and ATM Withdrawals

Revolut's payments and crypto services went down in a disruption that also knocked out sign-in and ATM withdrawals, the company said. The fintech told customers their money and data were safe throughout. It didn't say how long the outage lasted or what caused it.

What customers actually lost access to

The disruption wasn't confined to one corner of the app. Payments stopped working. Crypto services stopped working. Sign-in broke. And ATM withdrawals, the most basic fallback when an app won't load, were affected too.

That's a wide blast radius for a single incident. Revolut runs payments and crypto through the same app most customers use for everyday banking. When sign-in fails, it doesn't matter which product is technically up. Users are locked out of all of it.

The ATM piece is the one that'll sting. Customers who couldn't get into the app had no obvious way to pull cash, which is exactly the moment a card and a PIN are supposed to matter. Revolut hasn't said whether card payments in shops kept working.

The reassurance, and what it doesn't cover

Revolut's statement was short: customer money and data were safe. That's the line every regulated fintech reaches for during an outage, and it's worth taking at face value here. There's no indication of a breach or lost funds.

But "safe" and "available" aren't the same thing. The company hasn't explained what failed, whether the crypto side went down separately from payments, or whether the sign-in problem was a symptom of the same root cause. It also hasn't given a timeline.

For a firm that leans on the pitch of one app for everything, a single incident touching payments, crypto, login and cash access is a reminder of how much sits behind one sign-on.

No timeline, no cause

As of Tuesday, Revolut hasn't published a post-incident breakdown. Customers are left with the reassurance and not much else. The next concrete thing to watch is whether the company issues a fuller account of what broke and when services came back.

Until then, the open question is scope. An outage that touches four separate functions could be one failure or several that lined up. Revolut hasn't said which.
