Strategy Sells 1,637 Bitcoin to Fund Dividends and STRC Buyback

Strategy, the business intelligence firm formerly known as MicroStrategy, sold 1,637 Bitcoin this week to fund dividend payments and a buyback of its own stock (STRC). The move is a notable shift for a company that has long been the largest corporate holder of the cryptocurrency.

The transaction

The sale was executed over several days, according to a filing. Proceeds will go toward a cash dividend and a share repurchase program. Strategy did not disclose the exact price or timing of the trades, but the sale comes as Bitcoin trades around $67,000.

Strategy has built its reputation — and its stock price — around relentless Bitcoin accumulation. The company has issued convertible bonds and used cash flows to buy over 200,000 BTC. Selling even a fraction of that stash to fund shareholder returns is a departure from that playbook. It suggests management is now balancing its Bitcoin bet with direct capital returns.

The buyback and dividend are expected to be completed by the end of the quarter. Strategy has not said whether it plans additional sales. Investors will be watching for any change in the company's long-term Bitcoin strategy.
