Tether Brings Tokenization to Saudi Arabia, Starting With Real Estate

Tether is taking its tokenization business to Saudi Arabia. The company said it will start with institutional real estate assets, marking the first step in a broader push into the kingdom.

Why Saudi Arabia

The move puts Tether in one of the Middle East's biggest economies. Saudi Arabia has been trying to diversify beyond oil, and tokenization — turning physical assets into digital tokens on a blockchain — fits that push. Tether didn't name any local partners or specific properties, but the company said it plans to expand tokenization to other asset classes in the country over time.

What Tokenization Means Here

Tokenization lets investors buy and sell fractions of a building or other asset without having to own the whole thing. Tether already runs the world's largest stablecoin, USDT, and has been moving into other blockchain services. Real estate is a natural next step because it's a huge, illiquid market. By tokenizing it, Tether hopes to make it easier for institutions to trade property stakes.

Tether hasn't given a timeline for when the first tokenized real estate deals will close in Saudi Arabia. The company also hasn't said which regulators it's working with or whether it needs approval from the Saudi Capital Market Authority. Those questions will matter as Tether tries to scale beyond real estate into other tokenized assets.
