A large bank has begun allowing clients to borrow against the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF, accepting the fund as collateral at a 25% loan-to-value ratio. The move signals increased institutional acceptance and integration of digital assets in finance.
What the 25% LTV means
The bank, which has not been named, is now treating the ETF as a lendable asset. Investors who hold the fund can use it to secure loans, with the bank lending up to a quarter of the fund's value. That gives ETF holders a way to access cash without selling their positions.
The loan-to-value ratio is a key detail. At 25%, the bank is offering a relatively conservative lending threshold, meaning borrowers must put up four dollars of ETF holdings for every dollar they borrow. This is a practical step that brings the Solana staking product into the same collateral framework used for more traditional assets.
A sign of institutional comfort
The decision is notable because it comes from a large, established bank. It suggests that digital assets are no longer on the periphery of institutional finance. The bank's willingness to accept a Solana-based ETF as collateral indicates a level of comfort with the asset class that was rare just a few years ago.
For the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF, this development adds a new layer of utility. Holders can now leverage their positions through a regulated banking channel, rather than turning to crypto-native lending platforms. That could make the ETF more attractive to investors who want exposure to Solana but also need liquidity.
What's not yet known
The bank has not disclosed whether the borrowing facility is available to all clients or limited to a specific group. It also hasn't detailed the interest rates, repayment terms, or any conditions tied to the loans. Those details will matter for investors considering this option.
The move comes as traditional financial institutions continue to explore ways to incorporate digital assets into their offerings. Whether other banks follow suit with similar lending products for crypto ETFs remains an open question, but this step gives the market a concrete example to watch.
