Bitcoin ETF Inflows Top $900M as Coinbase Premium Gap Hits Two-Year Pessimism Low

Bitcoin ETF Inflows Top $900M as Coinbase Premium Gap Hits Two-Year Pessimism Low

Bitcoin spot ETFs pulled in more than $900 million over the past six days, but a closely watched pricing signal tells a different story. The Coinbase Premium Gap — the difference between BTC prices on Coinbase and Binance — has been stuck negative since May 6 and just hit its most pessimistic level in two years.

ETF Inflows Keep Flowing

The six-day haul pushes the July total past $2.5 billion, extending a streak that began after the June jobs report. BlackRock's IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC accounted for the bulk of the volume, with no single day dipping below $100 million. The pace suggests institutional allocators are still rotating into the space despite a choppy broader market.

Coinbase Premium Gap Worsens

Meanwhile, the Coinbase Premium Gap has been negative for nearly three months. The metric turned red on May 6 and has only deepened since. This week it reached the lowest reading since mid-2024, meaning U.S. traders on Coinbase are consistently paying less for Bitcoin than their counterparts on Binance. That's a bearish signal — it implies selling pressure from American retail and institutions, or at least a lack of fresh buying demand on the largest U.S. exchange.

What the Split Tells Us

The divergence is striking. ETF inflows are overwhelmingly institutional and often executed over the counter or through custodians, not on Coinbase's order book. So the premium gap may reflect a different slice of the market — one where U.S. holders are taking profits or hedging. The negative gap also suggests that the ETF buying is being offset by spot selling elsewhere, or that arbitrageurs are keeping the spread tight. Either way, the two-year low in sentiment on Coinbase isn't matching the headline inflow numbers.

For now, the premium gap remains the metric to watch. If ETF inflows continue at this clip, they could eventually pull the Coinbase price back above Binance's. But the gap has been negative for 82 days straight — a streak that's already the longest since the metric started being tracked. Whether the institutional wave can flip the spread positive again is the open question hanging over this market.
