BitMine Stakes Another $278M in Ether, Now 87% of Holdings Are Staked

BitMine Immersion Technologies added another 150,120 ETH to its staking pool on August 4, 2026 — worth roughly $278 million at current prices. The move pushes the company's total staked ether past 5 million tokens, or about $9.38 billion. That represents 87.4% of BitMine's entire Ethereum holdings, according to data flagged by blockchain analytics account Lookonchain.

A massive bet on Ethereum

Chairman Tom Lee has framed the buildup as a wager on a multiyear 'supercycle' for Ethereum. The company runs its staking through the Made in America Validator Network (MAVAN), an institutional platform it built in-house. BitMine plans to eventually open MAVAN to outside clients, though no timeline has been set.

The timing isn't accidental. Ethereum ETFs just posted their best month since October 2025, while Bitcoin funds continued to see outflows. BitMine's own stock has rallied as investors reward the treasury strategy.

The risk of being all-in

Staking nearly 90% of holdings leaves little room to reverse course quickly if sentiment turns. A sudden drop in ether's price or a shift in network economics could leave BitMine exposed. The company is effectively betting that the supercycle thesis holds — and that it won't need to liquidate a large chunk of its stash in a hurry.

For now, the market is buying the story. But the question hanging over the trade is simple: what happens if the supercycle doesn't materialize?
