BNB Chain has published a draft proposal that could sharply reduce the time validators spend executing blocks, potentially doubling network throughput. The proposal, BEP-675, targets the block construction and validation workflow rather than simply raising gas limits or adjusting block times.
How the proposal works
Under the current system, validators re-execute blocks as part of the validation process. That adds a heavy step to the critical path. BEP-675 introduces blind signing for validator blocks, which lets builders submit already-executed blocks directly. Validators would then sign without re-running the execution themselves.
The change is aimed at the block construction and validation workflow, not at blunt parameter tweaks. It's a structural shift in how blocks move through the network.
The performance gains
The numbers in the draft are striking. Validator execution time on the critical path could drop from 125 milliseconds to 15 milliseconds. That's an 88% reduction. Testnet environments show the potential for a doubling of throughput.
That kind of headroom matters for a chain that's been scaling through incremental changes. BEP-675 offers a way to get more out of the existing infrastructure without forcing validators to do more work.
BEP-675 is not live on mainnet. It's in Draft status, tied to the Pasteur network hard fork timeline. That means there's still time for community feedback and technical review before any deployment.
The proposal is now open for discussion. Whether it makes it into the Pasteur fork will depend on how the review goes. No date has been set for the hard fork yet.
