Cardano Rises 7% as Wanchain Bridge Hack, NIGHT Token Crash Hit Ecosystem

Cardano's native token ADA jumped 7.1% on July 21, trading at $0.175, even as two separate security incidents rattled the broader ecosystem. The price move came the same day the Wanchain bridge connecting Cardano to BNB Chain was hacked, and the NIGHT token crashed 25%.

Wanchain bridge exploit

The cross-chain bridge linking Cardano with BNB Chain was compromised. Wanchain confirmed the incident but did not immediately disclose the amount lost. The exploit follows a $2.4 million theft from SecondFi, a Cardano-based DeFi protocol, roughly one month earlier. SecondFi's loss was reported in June.

NIGHT token's sharp drop

NIGHT, a token tied to the Cardano ecosystem, fell 25% on the same day as the Wanchain hack. The token's decline added to a broader sense of unease among some investors, though ADA itself bucked the trend with a modest gain.

What's behind the price move

Analysts were not cited in the facts, but the price increase suggests that traders may have viewed the Wanchain incident as isolated to that bridge rather than a systemic Cardano problem. The $0.175 level represents a small recovery from recent lows, though ADA remains well below its all-time high.

The Wanchain team has not released a timeline for restoring the bridge or recovering any stolen funds. SecondFi's investigation into its own exploit is still ongoing.
