Dubai Duty Free has started accepting cryptocurrency payments at Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) airports. Shiba Inu (SHIB) and 29 other digital assets are now valid for purchases, with transactions settled in UAE Dirhams.
The 30-asset list
Shiba Inu is the most recognizable name on the list, but Dubai Duty Free says 30 cryptocurrencies in total are supported. The full lineup hasn't been published, but the move marks one of the broader crypto payment rollouts at a major travel retailer. Shoppers can use the assets at any point-of-sale terminal across both terminals.
Settlement in dirhams
All crypto payments are converted and settled in UAE Dirhams at the time of transaction. That means the merchant doesn't take on exchange-rate risk — the conversion happens instantly through the payment processor. For travelers, it removes the need to convert foreign cash or use a credit card with foreign transaction fees.
Live at both terminals
The service is live now at DXB and DWC. No pilot phase, no limited rollout — it's available at every Dubai Duty Free register. The company hasn't said whether it plans to add more coins or expand to other locations, but for now, anyone holding one of the 30 supported tokens can spend it on perfume, electronics, or a bottle of scotch before boarding.
