Two wallets linked to the Ethereum Foundation moved about $11.13 million worth of Ether to Kraken, according to on-chain tracker Lookonchain. The transfer totaled 4,393 ETH. It's the latest in a series of deposits from the same wallets to the exchange.
What Lookonchain flagged
Lookonchain, which monitors large wallet movements and posts them to X, reported the deposits. The firm identified the two wallets as tied to the Ethereum Foundation, the nonprofit that supports development of the Ethereum network. The transfers went to Kraken, a major U.S.-based crypto exchange.
The $11.13 million figure reflects the value of the ETH at the time of the move. The report didn't specify exactly when the transfers occurred, only that they were recent.
The pattern isn't new
Lookonchain noted that these aren't the first deposits from the same two wallets to Kraken. The foundation-linked addresses have sent ETH to the exchange before, making this the latest entry in an ongoing series rather than a one-off event.
That track record matters for anyone trying to read the move. A single transfer to an exchange could be anything — a treasury reshuffle, an OTC settlement, a test. Repeated transfers from the same wallets suggest a routine or at least a deliberate process, not a panic button.
Why exchange deposits get attention
ETH landing at a centralized exchange like Kraken is one of the few on-chain signals traders actually watch. Coins sitting in a self-custody wallet aren't for sale. Coins moved to an exchange can be. That doesn't mean they will be — plenty of ETH sits on exchanges without ever hitting the order book — but the move is visible, and visibility is the whole point of on-chain tracking services like Lookonchain.
The Ethereum Foundation holds a large treasury, and its wallet activity has drawn scrutiny before. Large holders moving assets tend to get read as a signal about sentiment, whether or not that's the intent. In this case, the recipient is a regulated exchange, and the amounts are consistent with the foundation's prior activity.
What's still unclear
Neither Kraken nor the Ethereum Foundation has commented on the transfers. There's no public explanation for what the ETH is for — whether it's being sold, moved for operational reasons, or simply consolidated.
What's concrete is the number: 4,393 ETH, roughly $11.13 million, across two foundation-linked wallets, to Kraken. What happens to that ETH once it's on the exchange is the part on-chain data can't answer. Deposits show intent to move, not intent to sell. The next transfer from the same wallets — or the absence of one — is the only thing that'll clarify whether this was housekeeping or something more.
