Ether.fi is expanding its app with tokenized stock trading, portfolio-wide borrowing, and global fiat transfers, the company announced Thursday. The additions, bundled into what it calls its 'Summer release', push the platform further into retail banking products.
What's in the Summer release
The new trading feature lets users buy and sell tokenized versions of stocks directly through the ether.fi app. That means the platform is no longer just a place to hold crypto — it's now a gateway to traditional equities, at least in tokenized form.
Alongside that, ether.fi is introducing portfolio-wide borrowing. Instead of taking out a loan against a single asset, users can borrow against their entire holdings across the app. The company says this gives more flexibility for people who want to tap their assets without selling them.
The third piece is global fiat transfers. Users can move money in and out of the platform in traditional currencies, not just crypto. That's a significant step for a project that started as a liquid staking protocol.
A shift toward retail banking
These features signal a clear move beyond crypto-native services. Tokenized stocks, borrowing, and fiat on-ramps are the kind of tools you'd expect from a neobank, not a staking app. ether.fi is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for everyday financial activity.
The announcement didn't include a rollout timeline or pricing details. But the company said the features are part of its Summer release, which it unveiled Thursday.
For now, the question is how quickly users will adopt them. ether.fi has built a name in the staking space, but competing with established fintechs and brokerages is a different game. The company is betting that combining crypto and traditional finance in one app is enough to stand out.
