KSNET, a major South Korean payment processor, has partnered with the Solana Foundation to integrate Solana Pay across its network of 330,000 merchants. The deal, announced this week, marks one of the largest single rollouts of Solana's blockchain-based payment system in Asia.
Why the partnership matters
KSNET processes payments for roughly one in three card terminals in South Korea. By adding Solana Pay, the company gives its merchants a way to accept crypto payments without building their own infrastructure. Customers can pay using USDC or SOL through a simple QR code, with transactions settling in seconds on the Solana blockchain.
The move is a bet that South Korean consumers, already among the world's most active crypto traders, will want to spend digital assets at physical stores. KSNET's existing network covers everything from convenience stores to restaurants, giving the integration immediate scale.
What Solana gets
For Solana, the partnership is a concrete foothold in a major Asian market. South Korea has one of the highest crypto adoption rates globally, but most activity has been on exchanges rather than in point-of-sale payments. Solana Pay's integration with KSNET could shift that dynamic, putting the network in front of millions of potential users.
The deal also strengthens Solana's presence in the region at a time when other blockchains are competing for merchant partnerships. Solana Foundation has been pushing real-world utility, and this is one of its biggest merchant wins to date.

KSNET and Solana Foundation have not disclosed a specific launch date, but the integration is expected to go live in phases over the coming months. Merchants will need to opt in, and KSNET will handle the fiat conversion for those who want to settle in won.
The bigger question is whether consumers will actually use it. Crypto payments have struggled to gain traction in retail, even in crypto-friendly markets. But with 330,000 terminals already in place, the infrastructure hurdle is lower than most previous attempts.
