Meta Rolls Out USDC Payments for Creators via Stripe in Pilot Program

Meta has started paying selected creators in USDC stablecoin, using Stripe to handle the payout infrastructure and tax reporting. The pilot is live for creators in Colombia and the Philippines, with plans to expand to more than 160 countries by the end of 2026.

How the payout system works

Creators who want to receive USDC need to pick a compatible blockchainSolana or Polygon are the options so far — and link an external wallet. Meta doesn't offer a built-in way to convert the stablecoin into local currency. That step is entirely on the creator.

That means anyone in the pilot who wants to spend their earnings on rent or groceries has to use a third-party service to swap USDC for pesos or other local money. Stripe handles the distribution and tax paperwork, but the off-ramp is left to the individual.

The off-ramp challenge

The main bottleneck for creators isn't the on-chain settlement. That part works fine. The real friction comes from fragmented off-ramp liquidity, variable fees, and region-specific compliance rules. A creator in Colombia might find a smooth path to cash out, while someone in the Philippines could face higher costs or limited options.

Available off-ramp methods include centralized exchanges, dedicated on-ramp/off-ramp providers, and peer-to-peer marketplaces. Each comes with its own fees, speed, and regulatory hurdles. Meta isn't steering creators toward any particular service, so it's up to each person to shop around.

What creators should do before cashing out

Meta has shared a set of recommended practices for creators. First, confirm network compatibility — sending USDC on Solana to a wallet expecting Polygon tokens won't end well. Second, verify that the off-ramp service supports your local currency and bank transfer methods. Third, estimate total costs, including network fees and exchange spreads. And finally, do a small test transfer before moving larger amounts.

The pilot is small for now, but the company's stated goal is to cover over 160 countries within two years. That would make USDC payouts a global option for Meta's creator ecosystem, assuming the off-ramp infrastructure can keep up.
