NEAR, HYPE and SOL Can't Hold September's Highs as 'Uptober' Fizzles

October was supposed to be the easy month. Instead, the crypto market's so-called 'Uptober' has come and gone with little to show for it: Near Protocol, Hyperliquid and Solana are all trading below their September highs as of Monday, and Bitcoin isn't faring much better. The seasonal tailwind traders count on every autumn hasn't shown up this year.

That's the story heading into the final stretch of October. No single catalyst is to blame. The assets just haven't been able to build on last month's gains, and the broader market has spent the past few weeks drifting sideways rather than breaking higher.

The September ceiling holds

For NEAR, HYPE and SOL, the problem is simple: the peaks reached in September remain untouched. Each of the three has spent October below those levels, which means buyers who stepped in during the previous month's rally are still underwater. That's not a recipe for momentum.

Bitcoin has the same problem in a milder form. The leading crypto hasn't collapsed, but it hasn't broken out either, and its inability to clear September's high has set the tone for the rest of the market. When BTC stalls, alts usually stall harder. This month fits the pattern.

Why Uptober missed

The seasonal thesis was straightforward: October has historically been one of the stronger months for crypto, and traders had spent weeks positioning for it. That positioning didn't pay off. The market's response to the month has been disappointing across the board.

What's missing is a clear driver. There's no single piece of news here to point to, no regulatory shock, no exchange failure, no macro print that flipped the tape. Instead, the market has simply failed to find buyers willing to push past last month's highs. In a market that runs on momentum, that absence is its own kind of signal.

The other issue is timing. October is nearly over. Every day that passes without a breakout makes it less likely that the month delivers anything worth calling a rally. Traders who were counting on Uptober are now looking at a handful of sessions left to salvage it.

What the charts are saying

For NEAR, HYPE and SOL, the technical picture is one of consolidation below resistance. None of the three has broken down violently. They just haven't broken up. That's a holding pattern, and holding patterns resolve eventually, usually in the direction of the broader market.

Bitcoin's range is the one to watch. As long as BTC stays capped under its September high, the alts are unlikely to lead. If BTC does manage a break, the three names above are the obvious candidates to follow. That's not a prediction, it's just how the market has been trading.

The final stretch

The next concrete test is the end of the month. If October closes with NEAR, HYPE, SOL and BTC all still below their September highs, the 'Uptober' narrative is dead for this year, and the focus shifts to whether November can do what October couldn't.

Until then, the market is waiting. Not crashing. Not rallying. Just waiting for a reason to move.
