Proof of Talk to name top 15 institutional crypto adopters as JPMorgan, BlackRock lead the pack

A coalition of 15 institutional heavyweights — from JPMorgan and BlackRock to KuCoin and DBS — has been identified as the leading adopters of digital assets over the past year, and the winner of the 'Leader in Digital Asset Adoption' award will be crowned at the Proof of Talk conference in Paris on June 2–3, 2026. The list, culled from an initial pool of more than 30 institutions, reflects a surge in real-world crypto integration by traditional finance players.

How the winners were picked

The scoring methodology breaks into three buckets: 30% quantitative data (think assets under management, trading volume), 50% Expert Council assessment, and 20% company-disclosed metrics. Firms were judged on strategic commitment, products launched, capital deployed, organizational investment, industry signal, and forward momentum. That last criteria — momentum — helps separate a one-off pilot from a sustained push.

Who did what

JPMorgan stands out. The bank launched its JPMD deposit token live on the Base blockchain and hired Oliver Harris to lead Kinexys. BlackRock's IBIT now holds over 800,000 BTC, and its BUIDL tokenized money market fund hit $2.85 billion. On the custody side, BNY provides live BTC and ETH custody, serves as co-custodian for Morgan Stanley's MSBT, and is cash custodian for IBIT. Fidelity Digital Assets received a national trust bank charter in December 2025 and plans to offer stablecoin and staking services. Goldman Sachs launched its GS DAP institutional DLT platform on Canton and is spinning it out as an industry-owned entity.

New charters, stablecoins, and ETF milestones

Morgan Stanley's Bitcoin ETF (MSBT) listed on NYSE Arca, while its OCC charter for Morgan Stanley Digital Trust is pending. Standard Chartered has crypto custody live in Luxembourg and Hong Kong and is a stablecoin licence candidate in Hong Kong. Société Générale's SG-FORGE issued MiCA-compliant EUR and USD stablecoins (EURCV and USDCV) and took part in a SWIFT pilot for tokenized bond settlement. HSBC was selected for the UK's DIGIT pilot and applied for a HKMA stablecoin issuer licence. Nomura's Laser Digital filed a National Trust Bank application in January, and its Komainu arm provides regulated custody across jurisdictions.

Exchanges and tokenization

KuCoin obtained MiCAR-CASP authorization via KuCoin EU and integrated institutional custody with Ceffu and Cactus. MEXC listed over 100 Ondo tokenized stock pairs and achieved strong global share in gold futures. DBS Digital Exchange saw volume increase 8x in 2025 and integrated crypto into trust planning. Citi Token Services integrated with 24/7 USD clearing and completed an Ether custody pilot. Franklin Templeton's BENJI/FOBXX tokenized money market fund has roughly $843 million in assets.

What happens next

The formal award ceremony at Proof of Talk will publicly name the single winner from the 15 — the firm that scored highest across the composite metrics. Until June 2, the list itself serves as a ranking of who's actually deploying capital and infrastructure into crypto, not just talking about it.
