A Solana meme coin named after a raccoon with a rare spinal condition shot up 186% in 24 hours, pushing its market cap near $11 million. The token, called JIMOTHY, was launched this week by anonymous developers on the Pump.fun platform. Trading volume hit $36 million in the past day, and the price climbed more than 50-fold from its low to an all-time high of $0.0217.
The Raccoon Behind the Token
The real Jimothy is a raccoon filmed by Seattle resident Kiana Hall near a Ballard Goodwill. The animal likely has short spine syndrome, a rare congenital condition, according to Marcie Logsdon, associate professor at Washington State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The video went viral, and within days a token bearing the raccoon's name appeared on Pump.fun.
A dedicated subreddit and fan merchandise have already emerged. Some tattoo artists are offering discounts for raccoon-inspired ink. The token's supply sits near one billion coins, and it ranks 1,117th by market capitalization.
Pump.fun's Role in the Rally
Pump.fun's trending page and official X account both reposted the token, giving it a major visibility boost. The launch came during a broader trading rebound on the platform, where the share of profitable traders has climbed for four straight months. That environment likely helped JIMOTHY gain traction quickly.
But the token's anonymous creators remain unknown. No one has claimed responsibility or offered a roadmap. The project has no stated utility beyond the meme.
The Risks of Viral Animal Tokens
Analysts warn that tokens built on viral animal moments rarely hold gains once the news cycle fades. They point to previous examples like a World Cup meme coin tied to Erling Haaland and a Pentagon UFO files token. Both saw sharp rallies followed by steep declines.
JIMOTHY's price has already shown extreme volatility. Whether the raccoon's story can sustain interest beyond the initial hype is an open question. The token's next test will come when the social media buzz inevitably cools.
