Ramp Network, the European fintech licensed under MiCA by the Central Bank of Ireland, has rolled out its Multichain Wallet and Rewards program across all European Union countries. The self-custodial wallet is secured by passkeys and gives users exportable private keys — a clear nod to the “not your keys, not your coins” crowd. The Rewards program pays out in real USDC for completing missions like buying, selling, and sending crypto.
What the wallet does — and doesn't do
The wallet is designed for users who want full control of their funds. It's self-custodial, meaning Ramp never holds the private keys. Instead, users authenticate via passkeys — biometric or device-based — and can export their keys at any time. That's a different approach from custodial wallets where the company manages the keys.
One notable gap at launch: cross-chain swaps aren't available in the EU. The swap mission is excluded from the Rewards program for now. Ramp didn't say when that feature might arrive.
Rewards that pay in real USDC
The Rewards program is straightforward. Users earn USDC — not points or tokens — for completing specific on-chain actions. Missions include buying crypto, selling crypto, and sending crypto. The payouts are in real USDC, so they can be spent or transferred immediately. It's a rare example of a rewards program that doesn't rely on a proprietary token.
Regulatory nuance: wallet vs. exchange
Ramp's regulated services in the EU — buying and selling crypto — are provided by Ramp Swaps (Ireland) Limited, which is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. But the self-custodial wallet service itself doesn't require authorization from the Central Bank. That means the wallet isn't covered by the bank's consumer protection rules or the deposit compensation scheme. Users should be aware: if something goes wrong with the wallet software, there's no safety net from the regulator.
Company background
Ramp Network was founded in 2017 and now operates in over 150 countries. Its suite of services includes buying, selling, sending, swapping, paying, and saving with crypto and stablecoins. The new wallet and rewards program are live across the EU as of this week. No timeline has been given for adding cross-chain swaps or expanding the rewards missions.
