Ripple Taps Brazil's CSD BR to Put Investment Fund Records on the XRP Ledger

Ripple is partnering with CSD BR to bring the XRP Ledger into Brazil's BRL 22 trillion asset system. The project will test whether blockchain can improve transparency, traceability, automation, and efficiency inside the country's existing regulated market framework. Investment fund ownership records are the first thing getting a blockchain layer.

What CSD BR actually does

CSD BR is the central securities depository sitting underneath Brazil's investment fund market. Ownership records there are the paper trail that says who holds what. Putting that ledger on XRP doesn't replace the regulated structure around it — the pilot is explicitly framed as a test inside the current framework, not a workaround of it.

That distinction matters. Brazil has spent years tightening its crypto rules rather than loosening them, and a depository-scale project only gets off the ground if the compliance story holds up.

Why fund records first

Investment fund ownership is a narrow, well-defined dataset. It's also one where the current process leaves room for improvement — reconciling holders, tracking transfers, and keeping records consistent across parties is exactly the kind of work that distributed ledgers are supposed to make cheaper.

Traceability is the other piece. If a record lives on a shared ledger, the audit trail is built in rather than reconstructed after the fact.

The XRP Ledger angle

Ripple has been pushing the XRP Ledger beyond payments for a while, and this is squarely in that lane. The pitch here isn't settlement speed or cross-border transfers. It's record-keeping infrastructure for a market that already has a regulator, a depository, and a legal framework in place.

Whether that pitch survives contact with Brazil's fund industry is the actual question the pilot is meant to answer.

What's still unknown

Neither side has put a timeline on the work. There's no word yet on how many funds or which fund managers would be involved, or how records on the XRP Ledger would interact with CSD BR's existing systems day to day.

The pilot's results — whenever they land — will determine whether this stays a test or becomes part of how Brazilian fund ownership is recorded.
