Swan CEO: Bitcoin May Bottom in October, Altcoins 'Basically Dead'

The CEO of Bitcoin-focused exchange Swan is making a blunt call: Bitcoin could bottom in October, roughly a year after its last peak. He's also done with the rest of the crypto market, calling altcoins "basically dead" and arguing the sector's best outcome is to get absorbed into traditional finance.

The October timeline

The prediction hinges on cycle timing. If Bitcoin follows the pattern of past post-peak drawdowns, October would mark about 12 months from the top. That's the kind of round-number anniversary that traders watch, even if the actual bottom doesn't come with a calendar alert.

The CEO didn't offer a specific price target. Just the month. And a warning that the pain isn't over until then.

Altcoins get the knife

His take on altcoins is harsher. "Basically dead" isn't a phrase that leaves much room for interpretation. In his view, most of the thousands of tokens that rode the last bull market aren't coming back — not as speculative vehicles, not as utility projects, not as anything.

That's a notable stance for someone running a Bitcoin-only platform. It's also consistent with the maximalist playbook: Bitcoin survives, everything else fades.

The TradFi endgame

Where does that leave crypto? The Swan CEO argues the industry's realistic ceiling is becoming a small part of traditional finance. Not replacing it. Not disrupting it. Just joining it.

That's a far cry from the early promises of financial sovereignty. But after a bear market that wiped out leverage, exchanges and a few reputations, it might be the pragmatic pitch. If Bitcoin becomes just another asset class in the TradFi portfolio, the thinking goes, it at least has a future.

The question now is whether October actually delivers the bottom. If it does, the next cycle starts from a lower base — and maybe with fewer altcoins around to promise otherwise.
