Why Texas said no
Abbott didn't mince words when explaining the freeze. "They basically dug their own grave for the problem that's been caused for them," he said, talking about data center developers. The halt applies to all new construction, a sharp turn after months of AI-fueled power demand. In a similar vein, governors in other states have also moved to slow down or block data center projects, and the stocks of Constellation Energy and NRG have taken the hit.
Miners hold the power
