Trump Media, Crypto.com, Yorkville Scrap CRO Treasury Venture

Trump Media & Technology Group, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. have mutually agreed to terminate the 'Trump Media Group CRO Strategy' venture, a SPAC/treasury plan that would have put a billion CRO tokens on TMTG's balance sheet. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn confirmed the decision to Axios on Aug. 7, attributing it to 'prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities.' The news knocked Cronos' CRO token lower, with CoinGecko tying the decline to the termination headline.

The billion-CRO plan

The venture was unveiled on Aug. 26, 2025, roughly a year ago. The structure called for a CRO-based digital-asset treasury, anchored by an approximately 1 billion CRO contribution, plus other financing arrangements. It was meant to give TMTG a direct stake in the Cronos ecosystem and give CRO a marquee corporate holder.

Why it ended

McGurn didn't go into detail. He told Axios the decision came down to 'prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities.' Both sides walked away by mutual agreement, so there's no public indication of a dispute or a specific trigger. The timing, though, is notable: the deal had been in the works for just under a year.

Market reaction

CRO traded lower after the Axios report, and CoinGecko directly linked the drop to the termination headline. The move underscores how much of the token's narrative had been tied to the TMTG deal.

Reassessing the digital-asset play

The termination removes a prospective on-chain treasury pillar for TMTG. That leaves investors to recalibrate TMTG's digital-asset exposure, which now looks thinner than it did a week ago. For CRO, the catalyst path is less clear. The question now is whether a replacement treasury or partnership plan emerges — and if so, on what terms. No replacement has been announced so far.
