Uniswap DAO Activates Fee Switch on v4 Pools, UNI Buy-and-Burn Begins

Uniswap governance has flipped the switch. Proposal 100 passed this week, activating a protocol fee on v4 liquidity pools. The mechanism collects roughly one-sixth of swap fees into TokenJar contracts, which then buy and burn UNI tokens. It's a shift from theoretical value capture to an active model — and it's live across seven networks.

How the fee switch works

This isn't a dividend or staking reward. The collected fees go straight into buy-and-burn mechanics, reducing the circulating supply of UNI. Tokenholders don't get direct distributions. The vote tally was decisive: about 46.6 million in favor, 1.2 million against. The switch applies to v4 pools only, where the protocol's new flexibility — hooks and customizable pool logic — makes the fee mechanism more significant than it would have been on earlier versions.

Revenue jumps

Daily protocol revenue has already climbed. Before activation, Uniswap was pulling in roughly $114,000 per day from fees. That rate has risen to about $325,000. The increase comes from the new fee stream, which is additive to existing swap fees. Liquidity providers aren't seeing reduced yields — the protocol fee is on top of what LPs already earn.

Seven networks, one switch

The activation spans Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, BNB Chain, Polygon, OP Mainnet, and Robinhood Chain. That multi-chain rollout reflects how far Uniswap has moved beyond its Ethereum mainnet roots. Each network's v4 pools now contribute a portion of swap fees to the TokenJar contracts, which execute the buy-and-burn on UNI.

Open questions

Revenue sustainability is the first big unknown. Will trading volume hold up now that fees are being taken? Liquidity health is another — some LPs might balk at the added cost, though the additive nature should soften the blow. The burn impact on UNI's supply will take weeks to measure. And governance may expand the fee switch to more pools or adjust the rate. For now, the DAO is watching the data.
