Upbit listed six altcoins against BTC and USDT on Monday, but the rollout was anything but smooth. Trading was delayed twice — from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Korea time — and one token, CYS, had its launch postponed after errors on the project's bridge page and thin liquidity. The day ended with a split screen: CYS and AIOZ rallied, while XAN tumbled 38.5%.
A launch that slipped twice
The delays weren't a single hiccup. Upbit moved the open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., then again to 8 p.m. local time. CYS got the worst of it — its launch was shelved entirely, with the exchange citing problems on the project's bridge page and thin liquidity. That's a rare move for a listing day, and it left traders who'd queued up orders staring at a blank screen.
XAN also got special treatment. Upbit cut the token's minimum sell price to 0.01275 USDT before the rescheduled open, and blocked sell orders more than 10% below that reference for the first five minutes. The message was clear: they didn't want a flash crash on day one.
Day-one guardrails
The exchange layered on extra rules for the whole batch. Buy orders were disabled for roughly five minutes after each open, and only limit orders cleared during the first two hours. That's a deliberate slowdown, meant to keep the first few minutes from turning into a free-for-all. It didn't stop XAN from dropping hard, but it probably kept things from getting uglier.
Winners and losers
CYS, despite the postponed start, now trades near $1.25, up 34% in 24 hours with a market cap above $200 million. AIOZ climbed nearly 20% over the past day, and OpenEden — the token behind EDEN — gained 11% in 24 hours, extending a run that made real-world assets July's strongest crypto narrative. ICNT moved less than 1%, and ALLO was flat. XAN, though, changed hands near $0.0123, down about 32% in 24 hours. Impossible Cloud Network and Allora drew little fresh demand despite the same Seoul exposure.
The Upbit effect
None of this is new. Upbit's decisions routinely move prices — BONK slid to a near three-year low after the exchange announced its September delisting, while Morpho whale activity hit multi-month highs in July after a new won pair opened. Monday's mixed results are just the latest reminder that a listing on Upbit can make or break a token's week, even when the launch itself stumbles.
