Vietnam Ranked 4th in Global Crypto Adoption, Handled $220B+ in Transactions

Vietnam ranked fourth globally in the Chainalysis adoption index in 2025, with an estimated 17 million crypto asset holders and transaction volumes exceeding $220 billion over the 12 months through June 2025. The country's crypto economy is driven by remittances, payments, and investment, with the Vietnamese Dong playing a central role in converting between fiat and digital assets.

How Vietnam uses crypto

Cryptocurrency in Vietnam serves multiple purposes: investment, remittances, payments, and as a store of value. Ho Chi Minh City alone received over $10 billion in remittances in 2025, much of which flows through crypto channels. The ability to move value quickly and cheaply makes digital assets attractive for overseas workers sending money home.

The role of the Vietnamese Dong

The Vietnamese Dong is used to purchase USDT and Bitcoin, convert crypto back to fiat, and settle transactions within the country. Platforms like BestChange help users compare exchange rates for VND-to-crypto pairs — including VND to USDT, BTC to VND, VND to TRX, USDC to VND, ETH to VND, and VND to XRP — and vice versa. This infrastructure makes on- and off-ramping relatively smooth for the 17 million holders.

Digital payments and tourism

Digital payments — cashless transactions, mobile transfers, and QR code payments — are growing rapidly in Vietnam, and the digital economy now accounts for a notable share of GDP. Tourism, which rebounded strongly in 2025, reinforces demand for VND-crypto exchanges as visitors and local businesses seek efficient ways to handle cross-border payments.

The combination of a large remittance market, a tech-savvy population, and a growing digital payments ecosystem suggests Vietnam will remain a key market for crypto adoption. Regulatory clarity, however, is still evolving — and how the government chooses to treat digital assets will shape the next phase of growth.
