Bitcoins lave volatilitet signalerer et stort udsving, siger Fundstrats Farrell

Bitcoin's 30-day price swings are among the smallest on record, and Fundstrat's Sean Farrell thinks that calm won't last. Historically, such quiet stretches have been followed by big moves — but they've gone up about as often as they've gone down. The signal isn't about direction; it's about the size of the next swing.

What the data shows

Farrell looked at eight low-volatility episodes and found that the median absolute price move over the following 60 days was 30.2%. Four times Bitcoin rose, four times it fell. That's a coin flip on direction, but the magnitude is consistent. He didn't give a specific price target, but offered an illustration: a 30% swing off the current price of $64,000 would put Bitcoin near $83,200 on the upside and $44,800 on the downside.

The current stretch is notable because volatility has been compressing for weeks. Farrell's point is that these periods don't last forever, and when they break, they tend to break hard.

Monday's bounce

Bitcoin rallied as much as 2% on Monday after lagging other cryptocurrencies. It's still down nearly 27% so far in 2026. Farrell attributed the bounce to short covering rather than fresh buying; coin-denominated open interest fell roughly 8% since Friday evening as prices rose. That's a sign that traders who had bet against Bitcoin were buying back to close positions, not that new money was coming in.

He compared the move to short-covering rallies in early June and early July that faded, calling it a 'bear rally in disguise'. His base case expects a similar pattern this time, though he called Monday's price action constructive. So the bounce could be real, but the odds favor another leg down if history repeats.

The risk that breaks the calm

Farrell flagged rising real yields as Bitcoin's biggest risk. If they keep climbing, they could end the unusually calm trading range. BeInCrypto has tied rising real yields to record global bond yields in recent weeks. That's a macro headwind that doesn't care about technical patterns.

The question is whether real yields keep climbing — that could be the trigger that ends the quiet.
