On Monday, Stake has officially begun its regulated online gambling operations in Mexico. Overseen by SEGOB, the Ministry of the Interior, the launch was done through its platform, stake.mx.
The Licensing Model
Due to the highly restrictive federal gambling permit system in Mexico, Stake operates as an agent under a license agreement with Uno Capali, an intermediary firm. This model, known as an intermediary licensing structure, is a standard practice in Mexico as federal gambling permits are rarely distributed.
The Timing of the Launch
The official launch in Mexico comes only five weeks before the commencement of the FIFA World Cup, one of the biggest events in global sports betting. This strategic move could potentially allow Stake to capitalize on the increased gambling activity during the tournament.
