Real Madrid has completed the signing of left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, securing the Spanish defender on a six-year contract. The deal, confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday, brings Cucurella to the Bernabéu after a single season at Stamford Bridge.
The transfer details
Cucurella, 25, joins Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee. He signed a contract that ties him to the La Liga champions until 2029. The move ends a short stint with Chelsea, where he arrived in 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion for a reported £62 million.
Cucurella's path
A product of Barcelona's La Masia academy, Cucurella made his senior debut for the Catalan club before moving to Getafe in 2020. His performances there earned him a transfer to Brighton, where he impressed enough to attract Chelsea's attention. At Stamford Bridge, he made 38 appearances across all competitions but struggled to hold down a consistent starting spot.
What Real Madrid gets
Madrid's left-back position has been a question mark since Ferland Mendy's injury struggles. Cucurella's arrival adds depth and competition. He is known for his energy, crossing ability, and defensive work rate. The Spaniard also brings experience from La Liga, having played for Getafe and Barcelona's B team.
Real Madrid's sporting direction sees Cucurella as a player who can contribute immediately while fitting the club's policy of signing younger talent with resale value. The six-year deal reflects confidence in his long-term role.
Cucurella becomes Madrid's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of midfielder Jude Bellingham earlier this month. The club is expected to announce further moves before the transfer window closes.
