This launch fits Google's broader wearable strategy: the Pixel Watch 5 anchors the premium tier ($300+), while the Fitbit Edge and Air cover the mid-range ($150-250) and budget ($100-150) segments. The wearable market is growing at ~10% CAGR, but Google's share remains below 5% globally, trailing Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi. By refreshing the Fitbit line, Google aims to leverage its health-tracking ecosystem (Fitbit Premium, Google Fit) to lock in users and generate recurring subscription revenue—a high-margin business that complements its ad-driven core.
