Apple has updated its desktop lineup, introducing a Mac Mini powered by the M6 chip and a Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra options. Both machines are built around silicon designed for on-device AI workloads, a shift that could change how creative and scientific teams buy hardware.

The move puts Apple's desktops in a different lane than the laptops it has pushed for the past two years. The Mac Mini, long the entry-level desktop, now carries the M6 chip — the first time Apple has put its newest silicon in the small form factor rather than the Pro line. The Mac Studio, meanwhile, skips the M5 for the M5 Max and M5 Ultra, a pairing aimed at heavier rendering and modeling tasks.
