Apple Reveals New AI Strategy, Overhauls Siri, Launches iOS 27 at WWDC 2026

Apple used its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday to lay out a revamped artificial intelligence strategy, roll out a redesigned Siri, and officially announce iOS 27. The moves, unveiled during the opening keynote in Cupertino, signal the company’s most significant AI push in years.

The AI Focus

Tim Cook and his team spent a large chunk of the keynote on what they called a “comprehensive AI vision.” The new strategy aims to weave machine learning deeper into the operating system and first-party apps. Apple executives described a system that processes more data on-device than before, though specific technical details were sparse. The company framed the shift as a privacy-first alternative to cloud-dependent rivals.

Siri’s Transformation

The voice assistant got what Apple called its “biggest update ever.” Siri now handles multi-step requests without needing to be re-awoken and can draw context from what’s on the screen. The overhaul also includes a new natural language engine that Apple claims understands casual phrasing better. Third-party developers will get access to the same underlying models later this year.

iOS 27 Arrives

The next major version of iPhone software comes with a redesigned lock screen that adapts to time of day and activity. Notifications are now grouped by priority using on-device AI. Apple also added a new “Live Translation” mode that works across apps in real time, as well as deeper integration with the updated Siri. Developers can start testing the beta today; a public rollout is set for September.

Developers will get their hands on the first beta of iOS 27 later today, with a public release expected in the fall.
