Revolut has begun rolling out EURR, a euro-denominated stablecoin, to a select group of customers in Europe. The initial launch covers Denmark, Poland, and Portugal, marking the fintech's first step into the digital currency market with its own token.
What is EURR?
EURR is designed as a stablecoin that trades against the euro, aiming to keep a consistent value in that currency. Revolut is introducing it to customers in the three markets as a first wave, though the company hasn't said exactly how many users will get access at this stage.
Stablecoins are a growing part of the crypto industry, and Revolut's entry puts it in direct competition with other euro-backed tokens already in circulation. The move also extends the company's existing crypto offerings into a product it controls entirely.
Where the rollout is happening
The initial access is limited to select customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal. That's a small slice of Revolut's overall European user base, but it's a deliberate first step. The company hasn't revealed which criteria it used to pick the first group of users.
For now, EURR won't be available across all of Europe. Customers outside those three countries will have to wait until Revolut widens the rollout, assuming it does.
EURR gives Revolut a native token it can control, rather than relying on third-party stablecoins. That means the company can set its own fees, manage the token's supply, and integrate it directly into its banking app.
The move also places Revolut among a growing list of financial companies looking to offer euro-backed digital assets. The competition includes both traditional banks and crypto-native firms, though Revolut's advantage is its existing customer base across Europe.
The rollout is still in its early days. There's no word yet on when EURR will reach other European markets or whether the token will be offered to business customers.
For the customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal who have access, the token is already live. For everyone else, it's a matter of waiting to see how Revolut expands the project from here.
