Executive Summary
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has exposed alleged insider trading activities involving staff at Axiom Exchange, a Y Combinator-backed non-custodial trading platform. Senior business development employee Broox Bauer stands at the center of the scheme, utilizing internal tools to track private user wallets and execute profitable trades. The revelation highlights critical governance failures within the platform and opens potential legal avenues under the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
What Happened
Multiple Axiom Exchange employees engaged in unauthorized data access to facilitate insider trading starting in early 2025. Broox Bauer, operating under the handle @WheresBroox, leveraged weak access controls on internal infrastructure to retrieve sensitive user information. This access allowed staff to monitor private wallet activity and inform trading decisions without user consent.
Bauer claimed the ability to track any Axiom user through referral codes, wallet addresses, or internal user IDs. The scheme followed a staged approach, beginning with 10 to 20 wallet lookups to avoid detection before expanding operations. In April 2025, Bauer shared a screenshot from an internal interface displaying private wallet information for a trader identified as "Jerry." Further evidence emerged in August 2025 when Bauer circulated registration data and linked wallets for a trader known as "Monix."
Investigation files show Bauer discussed conducting lookups on users who traded the meme coin AURA. A Google Sheet compiled wallet addresses of multiple key opinion leaders (KOLs) from Axiom's internal dashboard, and the KOLs independently confirmed the accuracy of the attributed data. Internal oversight remained minimal, with senior figures identified as "Cal" and "Mist" potentially unaware of the activity. Three hours before public disclosure, a suspected insider placed bets totaling $59,800 using two newly created wallets, generating roughly $109,000 in profit.
