Binance will temporarily suspend US stock trading on August 8, with the stoppage tied to a scheduled system upgrade by a partner broker. The halt is expected to last about three hours. Separately, the exchange will delist four spot trading pairs the day before.
Why the Trading Pause
The August 8 suspension affects US stock trading on Binance, a service the exchange offers through a partner broker. Binance said the pause is required for the broker's planned system upgrade. Trading will resume after the work is complete, though the company didn't specify an exact restart time.
The Pairs Being Removed
Effective August 7, Binance will delist QNT/BTC, RPL/USDC, SIGN/BNB, and SKL/USDC from its spot market. The move follows the exchange's regular review process, which targets pairs that don't meet standards like adequate liquidity and trading volume. Binance stressed that delisting a pair doesn't remove the underlying tokens from the platform—users can still trade those assets on other available pairs.
Recent Delistings and Price Reactions
This isn't the first round of cuts this month. Earlier, Binance delisted ACX, HFT, PIVX, PYR, VANRY, and VIC, and those tokens saw double-digit price drops shortly after. Before that, the exchange ended services for ALCX, ARDR, NFP, and POND, which triggered similar sell-offs. The pattern suggests traders often react quickly when a pair disappears, even if the token remains listed elsewhere.
Network Maintenance and Hard Fork Support
Alongside the trading changes, Binance also performed wallet maintenance on the Tron Network, temporarily halting TRX deposits and withdrawals for roughly an hour. The exchange also supported a Zcash hard fork, which required a short suspension of ZEC deposits and withdrawals. These routine technical pauses are separate from the stock trading halt and the pair delistings.
The delisting of the four pairs takes effect August 7, and the stock trading suspension follows on August 8. Whether further pairs get cut later in the month will depend on Binance's ongoing liquidity and volume checks.
