Cryptocurrencies slipped Friday, with Dogecoin dropping 4.5% and Ether falling 2.5%, as traders trimmed positions ahead of next week's Federal Reserve meeting. The pullback is broad but shallow — most major coins are still up on the week, suggesting the move is more about positioning than panic.
Dogecoin takes the biggest hit
Dogecoin led the decline among the top coins, shedding 4.5% in the past 24 hours. Ether wasn't far behind, down 2.5%. Bitcoin and other majors also edged lower, but the losses were contained. The overall market cap dipped roughly 2% — a modest retreat after a strong week.
Why traders are cautious
The timing isn't great for risk assets. The Federal Reserve's next policy meeting starts next week, and markets are bracing for any signal on interest rates. Crypto tends to be sensitive to liquidity expectations, so a pullback ahead of the decision is a familiar pattern. Still, the fact that most coins remain higher on the week shows the selling hasn't turned into a rout.
All eyes are on the Fed's statement and press conference next Wednesday. If the central bank signals a pause or a dovish tilt, crypto could bounce quickly. A hawkish surprise, though, might deepen the pullback. For now, traders are playing it safe — and Dogecoin, as usual, is the most volatile gauge of sentiment.
