Chainlink Labs, the development team behind the Chainlink oracle network, has brought on the former top lawyer of StarkWare and Cboe Digital as its new Head of Legal. The hire signals a push to strengthen the company's legal and regulatory footing as the crypto industry faces increasing scrutiny.
New legal leadership
The new Head of Legal previously served as Chief Legal Officer at StarkWare, a blockchain scaling firm, and before that held the same role at Cboe Digital, the digital-asset arm of the Cboe Global Markets exchange. Chainlink Labs did not disclose the start date or any other details about the appointment.
Why the hire matters
Chainlink Labs builds and maintains the Chainlink network, which supplies tamper-proof data feeds to smart contracts on blockchains like Ethereum. The company has grown rapidly as decentralized finance (DeFi) applications rely on its oracles. With regulators around the world tightening rules on crypto tokens, exchanges, and DeFi protocols, having a seasoned legal chief who has navigated both a blockchain startup and a regulated exchange could help Chainlink Labs anticipate and respond to legal challenges.
The hire also comes as the broader crypto industry sees a wave of legal hires. Companies are building out compliance and policy teams to deal with everything from securities classification to anti-money laundering requirements. Chainlink Labs itself has not faced major public enforcement actions, but its network touches many projects that have.
The new Head of Legal spent time at StarkWare, which develops zero-knowledge rollup technology for scaling Ethereum. At Cboe Digital, she oversaw legal matters for the exchange's digital asset trading platform. That mix of experience — both in cutting-edge blockchain infrastructure and in a traditional financial exchange's digital arm — gives her a broad view of the legal landscape.
Chainlink Labs did not provide a comment for this story. The company typically does not comment on personnel moves beyond the initial announcement.
The new Head of Legal will likely focus on building out Chainlink Labs' legal department and advising on regulatory strategy. The company has not announced any specific policy changes or legal initiatives tied to the hire. But with the SEC and other agencies increasingly active in crypto enforcement, the timing suggests Chainlink Labs wants to be proactive rather than reactive.
