World Chain will activate streaming Block Access Lists on its mainnet on August 17. What streaming access lists do
Block Access Lists specify which accounts, storage slots, and code a given transaction touches. Streaming them means nodes can fetch that data on demand instead of pre-loading the whole block. The approach cuts the overhead for validators and full-node operators, especially as block sizes grow. World Chain is the first major chain to activate this at the protocol level on mainnet.
The technique has been discussed in Ethereum research circles as a potential upgrade for the base layer. World Chain's live implementation gives the Ethereum community a real-world test case. If it works well, it could influence how Ethereum handles state access in future hard forks — particularly in the context of statelessness and Verkle trees. The timing isn't accidental: Ethereum's own roadmap includes similar ideas under the umbrella of "stateless clients."
