The agreement goes beyond just settlement. The two sides will work on asset tokenization and blockchain-based settlement systems. That means real-world assets listed on the NSE could eventually trade as digital tokens, with Tether's USDT used as the settlement currency. The exchange also plans to launch investor education programs around digital assets — a move that signals the NSE sees crypto as a long-term part of Kenya's financial landscape.

Kenya has one of the most active crypto markets in Africa, but regulation has been patchy. If the pilot works, it would let NSE members settle trades in USDT instead of Kenyan shillings. That's a big deal for foreign investors who've struggled with currency controls and slow cross-border payments.
