Instead, Tangem relies on its app and a backup process that the company says is simpler for beginners. Both wallets are slim — DCENT S measures 85.6 by 54 mm and is 0.9 mm thick; Tangem is similarly sized. But Tangem pushes further on ruggedness. It carries an IP69K rating, which means it can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, plus resistance to X-rays, electrostatic discharge, and electromagnetic pulses. DCENT S has IP69 dust and water resistance, which is already high, but it doesn't claim protection against X-rays or EMP. Temperature range is close: DCENT S works from -30 to +50°C, Tangem from -25 to +50°C.

Both wallets use EAL6+ certified secure elements — the same level found in government IDs and EMV payment cards. Both auto-lock after repeated wrong PIN entries and include tamper protection. But Tangem has published two independent firmware audits: one by Kudelski Security in 2018 and another by Riscure in 2023. DCENT S has not released equivalent third-party audits. Tangem also offers anti-counterfeit verification through its app; DCENT S does not emphasize that feature.
