After two years of silence, a Solana whale that turned a $6.8 million stake into more than $20 million in profit is back. The wallet, tagged GvHYQQ, spent $3.6 million to buy 47,535 SOL, pushing its holdings to roughly 147,535 tokens worth about $11.1 million at current prices.
The 2023 Play That Paid Off
The wallet first built its position in 2023, accumulating 291,790 SOL for $6.82 million at an average of $23.37 per token. Then it sold 191,789 SOL for $24.62 million at an average of $128.36, realizing a profit of over $20 million. That sell left the address with roughly 100,000 SOL from the original stack, and the wallet sat untouched for more than two years.
Now the same address has bought back in. The fresh purchase of 47,535 SOL at current market prices brings the total to about 147,535 SOL, worth close to $11.1 million. The buy is a clear signal that at least one big player sees value at today's levels, even after a brutal stretch for the token.
A Market That's Lost Ground
SOL trades near $75, down about 1% in the past 24 hours and roughly 1% over the past month. The longer picture is uglier: SOL is down 39% year-to-date and 59% over the last 12 months. Several on-chain metrics turned bearish in mid-August, with exchange netflows flipping positive and DEX volume sitting near 80% below its April peak. That suggests more tokens moving to exchanges, often a precursor to selling, and a sharp drop in trading activity.
Institutional Money Moves the Other Way
While the retail and on-chain picture looks shaky, institutional interest has been climbing. Solana ETF inflows reached $10.26 million in the week ending August 14, nearly 70 times the prior week's total. That surge in inflows stands in sharp contrast to the bearish signals on the network itself, and it adds a layer of complexity to the whale's return.
The wallet's next moves are fully visible on-chain. Whether it adds to the position or starts selling again will be public within minutes of any transaction. For now, the whale that once cashed out $20 million has chosen to buy back in, and that's a bet the market can watch in real time.
